EU Commission Publishes Q2 2026 Price for CBAM Certificates
6 juli 2026The European Commission has officially published the Q2 2026 price for CBAM certificates, set at €75.28, in alignment with the average price of EU ETS allowances.
The European Commission has officially calculated and published the second quarterly price for Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) certificates for the 2026 calendar year.
As published on July 6, 2026, the Q2 CBAM certificate price is set at €75.28. This specific price will apply to the sales of CBAM certificates corresponding to the embedded emissions in CBAM goods imported into the Union during the second quarter of 2026.
Methodology and Carbon Cost Consistency
To ensure a level playing field, the Commission calculates the price of CBAM certificates as the weighted average of the auction clearing prices of the auctioned EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) allowances.
Pursuant to Article 21 of Regulation (EU) 2023/956 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2548, this methodology guarantees that the price of CBAM certificates accurately reflects the average price of EU ETS allowances. This maintains strict consistency between the carbon costs applicable to domestic EU producers and those applied to imports entering the EU market.
The Shift from Quarterly to Weekly Pricing
During the 2026 transition into the definitive regime, the Commission calculates and publishes four quarterly prices (determined during the first calendar week following the end of the relevant quarter). However, stakeholders should be prepared for this frequency to accelerate:
In 2026: Prices are published quarterly.
From 2027 onwards: The Commission will calculate and publish weekly prices.
Purchasing Mechanism: Pursuant to Article 20 of Regulation (EU) 2023/956, all CBAM certificates will be purchased exclusively on the common central platform starting from February 2027.
